This is the metrological test tower (records wind speed and direction data) that LIFE co-op erected near St. Agatha in August 2008.  The data after one year shows that a wind turbine can be profitable in this area.  LIFE co-op is hoping to install a community owned wind turbine in Waterloo Region under the new Feed In Tariff (FIT) offering that will create some local jobs and allow local people to own, operate and profit from renewable energy.  To get involved, check out www.lifecoop.ca.

LIFE co-op received a $40,000 grant from the Community Power Fund for the development of a wind business plan and feasibility study and has hired a wind project manager to complete this work. They have also just completed a one year wind speed study near St. Agatha, confirming a wind turbine will generate a modest rate of return in this area.  19 10 2009
